TORONTO -- July 7, 2009 -- The Compass Rose Society of the Anglican
Communion, which provides annual financial support to the Archbishop of
Canterbury and the Anglican Consultative Council, today announced that
it
will hold its 2009 annual general meeting in London on September 29th
and
30th and begin a five day mission trip to the Diocese of Southern
Malawi
on October 3.
Society members will convene on Tuesday, September 29th at St.
Andrew's
House, the London headquarters of the Anglican Communion, for the
annual
meeting and attend dinner hosted by Archbishop and Mrs. Williams on
Wednesday evening followed by the service of Compline in the
Archbishop's
Chapel.
The mission trip to the Anglican Southern Malawi is at the
invitation
of Bishop James Tengatenga, the newly elected chair of the Anglican
Consultative Council, and begins on October 3 with a celebration in
Magomero of the arrival of missionaries from England to Malawi. Other
plans include visits to schools, the seminary, diocesan headquarters
and a
medical clinic under construction. The trip concludes on October 7.
The Anglican Diocese of Southern Malawi was founded in 2002 after
the
division of the old Southern Malawi into Upper Shire and Southern
Malawi.
The Anglican Church in Malawi is 148 years old, established in 1861 by
the
Universities Mission to Central Africa that was formed in response the
call by David Livingstone to establish a church in the area.
The Compass Rose Society, founded in 1997, takes its name from the
